    Improvement Plan Information

    Additional Information about the school

Severance Middle School (SMS) opened in 2008-2009. SMS saw significant growth in the 2021-22 school year, adding 170 students and 9 staff growth positions. SMS currently has 673 students: 6th grade - 231, 7th grade - 235, and 8th grade - 207. The demographic data of the student population shows our free and reduced student population percentage at 31% and our current ethnicity data is 69.5% white, 30.5% minority. SMS 2023 accreditation rating is Performance with a rating of Meets for Achievement and Meets for Growth. 2023 CMAS data shows the need to focus on achievement for both ELA and Math for our subgroups to include Multilingual Learners (EL) and Students with Disabilities (SWD). The 2024 accreditation is Improvement. SMS fell short of Performance by .4%. While the school did not meet expectations, there was growth in our SPED sub categories with that population scoring in the meets expectations category. There is a need to continue to increase proficiency in reading, writing, and mathematical concepts with a particular need to focus on writing (written expressions, language, and conventions) in English Language Arts and reasoning and modeling in math.
